Instead of unpacking all of the stuff from my small, NYC apartment, spent the last weekend visiting Maine with the family (a mere you know, 5 1/2 hour drive from my part of town). Hadn’t been there in a little over a decade, and since it has been on my 2014 resolutions bucketlist (i.e. buying my grandma a lobster dinner) we had to go!
After getting there at 3:30 in the morning (there is some strange construction going up in New York and Connecticut) – the first stop my family had was at Old Orchard Beach – a great family area that had a nice beach, but still had a boardwalk feel to it.
Family pyramid on the beach.
Probably my new favorite ice cream flavor. “Maine survivor” cone -vanilla ice creamwith thick fudge swirl, reeses peanut butter cups, Spanish peanuts, and chocolate chip cookies. In a rainbow sprinkles waffle cone of course.
After some arcade games and a few crazy stares from the locals, we headed over to Ferry Beach Park where I bought the 13 members of my family a lobster lunch!
Ferry Beach kinda reminds me of the east coast version of Lanikai. Cute beach openings and nice sand, but the water is still Atlantic Ocean blackish blue and is freezing cold.
The next day we visited Portland and did a couple of touristy trolley and boat tours there. They even had their very own “lock bridge.”
And had a lobster roll and blueberry soda at Portland Lobster Co.
In summary, I ate a lot of lobster.
Looks like you had a lot of fun. I am also planning a trip to Portland Maine. How was lobster roll at Portland Lobster Co and did you visit any other lobster places worth mentioning? Let me know.
Thanks,
It was good! They also have live-music during the summer and are located right near the water. We wanted to visit Harbor Fish Market to bring some home, but they close early on Sundays! If you happen to visit Old Orchard Beach area which is about 20 minutes away from Portland, Lobster Claw Pound & Restaurant was great. Excellent service, huge portions, and had plenty of seating even though we were a big group on a Saturday night (very much a hole in the wall place).
Hope this helps! Happy lobster eating!
I will check out! Thanks for the info!
